Police are not enforcers for any political party: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the police are not the enforcement arm of any political party or group. Stressing the need to build a modern, technology-driven, impartial, and people-oriented police force, he said officers must adopt a zero-tolerance stance against corruption to earn public trust and uphold the rule of law.

He made the remarks on Sunday morning while addressing the graduation parade marking the completion of the first phase of training for the 27th BCS (Police) batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Charghat, Rajshahi.

The Home Minister said newly recruited officers should carry forward the ideals of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 student-led mass uprising. He said the officers, who are beginning their careers in a new national context after 18 years of deprivation, must uphold the chain of command, work toward building a discrimination-free society, strengthen the rule of law, and help restore people‍‍`s sense of security.

He also emphasized the need to enhance police officers‍‍` technical skills to combat digital crimes and ensure cybersecurity.

The Home Minister urged the officers to establish themselves as sincere friends and dedicated public servants of the people.

Among those present as special guests were Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, and Bangladesh Police Academy Principal and Additional IGP G. M. Azizur Rahman.

A total of 58 probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) from the first phase of the 27th BCS (Police) batch took part in the graduation parade after completing a six-month basic training programme, which began on February 1, 2026. The parade marked their formal entry into the police service.

The parade was commanded by Probationary ASP Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Usthay, who won both the Best Probationer and Best in Field Activities awards. Probationary ASP Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam received the Best Academic Award, while Probationary ASP A. B. M. Mamun was named Best Shooter.

Following the ceremony, the Home Minister presented awards to the top-performing trainees.

After completing their training, the newly commissioned Assistant Superintendents of Police will be posted to various units of the Bangladesh Police for practical field training.
