The ‘Sangshaptak Parishad’ panel in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election has announced its withdrawal from the polls, alleging administrative bias and collusion with Islami Chhatra Shibir in facilitating vote rigging.
The announcement came through a press release on Thursday afternoon. The statement detailed several allegations, including:
At the polling centre of Hall No. 15 (female hall), allegations surfaced of fake votes being cast by female members of student bodies. Pre-marked ballots were also reportedly recovered from the centre.
Shahid Salam Barkat Hall, which has 299 registered voters, reportedly received 400 ballot papers.
In the absence of photographs on voter lists, individuals allegedly voted without verification; evidence of this was reportedly found at Rafiq-Jabbar Hall.
Outsiders affiliated with different student organizations were reportedly seen in almost every hall.
The university administration was accused of displaying bias, alongside other irregularities.
The press release stated that under these circumstances, Sangshaptak Parishad had decided to boycott the election.
It further urged all contesting panels and students to unite beyond their divisions to “resist the conspiracy of the administration and Chhatra Shibir to steal the vote.”
When contacted for comment, Sohegi Samia Jannatul Ferdous, the panel’s candidate for the position of Assistant General Secretary (Women), said a press conference would be held soon to provide more details.
