Police arrested a youth on Wednesday night over raping a 17-year old college girl and trying to kidnap her at Salandar union in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
The arrestee is Faysal Ahmed, 21, of Shahpara village in the upazila, said Tanvirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Thakurgaon sadar police station.
A case was filed at sadar police station following a complaint lodged by the girl’s father accusing three anonymous people and Faysal on Thursday.
According to the complaint, on Wednesday locals rescued the girl when Faysal and his associates were trying to kidnap her in an auto rickshaw at Kalitala Bazar in the upazila but the accused managed to flee.
The girl later informed her father that Faysal raped her on April 1 by taking her to one Ramjan Ali’s house, said OC Tanvirul Islam.
Accused Faysal was produced before court on Thursday and the court sent him to jail, said the OC.
