Abdul Hannan Masud, Senior Joint Chief Coordinator and Political Council Member of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has admitted to an error in judgment over a recent incident in Dhanmondi and pledged not to repeat such mistakes in the future.
Based on his written and verbal explanation, the party has officially withdrawn the show-cause notice issued against him.
The incident in question occurred on May 20, when three individuals claiming to be ‘coordinators’ caused disorder in a residential area under Dhanmondi Police Station jurisdiction.
Among the detainees was a former student leader previously relieved from party responsibilities for ethical misconduct. The next day, Hannan Masud appeared at the police station and arranged bail for the trio, which led to internal questions about his role.
On May 21, NCP issued a show-cause notice demanding Hannan Masud explain why organizational action should not be taken against him. He responded within the stipulated three working days, acknowledging his involvement was a mistake and assuring the party it would not happen again.
Following his response and a review by the disciplinary committee, the party found no evidence linking Masud to the behavior of the detainees. In light of his accountability and cooperation, the NCP’s Political Council decided to retract the disciplinary notice.
