On Tuesday, Twitter announced it will add a gray “official” label to some high-profile accounts to verify the authentication of those accounts and this is the latest twist in Elon Musk’s chaotic overhaul of the platform’s verification system.
For users who will not pay a monthly charge, the system site which now uses to verify an account`s authenticity known as "blue checks" will shortly be removed.
The monthly subscription will be US$7.99-a-month, and for anyone willing to pay the checkmarks will be available, which will also include some bonus features, such as fewer ads and the ability to have tweets given greater visibility than those coming from non-subscribers.
The platform`s current verification system was created in 2009 to make sure high-profile and publicly visible accounts are who they claim to be.
Many experts have expressed their concern that making the checkmark available to anyone for a fee could lead to impersonations and the spreading of misinformation and scams.
