After a long break, Dhaka finally hosted a major outdoor concert with Magical Night 2.0 at the Army Stadium on Friday night, featuring Pakistan’s music superstar Atif Aslam.
The concert also had some exciting performances from Abdul Hannan, Bangladesh’s own Tahsan, the Kaaktaal band, and DJ duo Aperuss.
While the music was fantastic and fans were thrilled, the event was overshadowed by major problems with the organization and management.
The night began with Kaaktaal, a young and energetic band, who really got the crowd going with their songs like “Rokto Gorom Matha Thanda.”
Abdul Hannan followed at around 7 p.m., telling the audience, "This is the biggest crowd I’ve ever performed for!"
He sang some of his own hits like “Iraaday” and even covered Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
Hannan also performed “O Yaara,” his latest hit from Coke Studio Pakistan.
At 7:42 p.m., Tahsan took the stage, starting with “Ekhono” and followed it up with fan favorites like “Prem Tumi,” “Kotodur,” and “Alo.”
The crowd went wild for his songs, and the energy was high. After Tahsan, there was a documentary screening about the July Movement, which added a more serious and reflective tone to the evening.
The documentary, set to the emotional Miles track “Polashir Prantor,” honored the martyrs of the movement.
The chief guest of the night, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, spoke about the sacrifices made and the importance of remembering those who fought for the country’s freedom.
Finally, the much-anticipated moment arrived when Atif Aslam was set to perform at 8:45 p.m.
However, his show was delayed by a technical glitch, which disappointed fans. But once the issue was fixed, Atif took the stage and immediately won everyone over with his infectious energy.
He performed a non-stop set for nearly three hours, singing hits like “Dil Diyan Gallan,” “Tera Hone Laga Hoon,” “Pehli Nazar Mein,” “Jeena Jeena,” “Taajdar-E-Haram,” and “Woh Lamhe.”
He even treated the crowd to a medley of classic Bollywood songs, including “Kun Faya Kun” and “Pehla Nasha.” The fans loved every moment.
But while the music was on point, the event suffered from serious organizational issues. Many people with valid tickets were unable to enter the stadium, even after paying a lot of money for their passes.
There were reports of long delays and harassment at the entrance, with several fans complaining about overcrowding and poor facilities.
Some people were even turned away at the gates despite having tickets.
The concert gates opened at 1 p.m., but traffic around the venue was a nightmare, especially on the busy roads between Uttara and Mohakhali.
The traffic was so bad that many people were stuck in jams for hours and couldn’t make it to the concert on time.
On top of that, there was no parking available near the stadium, which only made the situation worse.
At one point, a group of people managed to break through the gates, and security had to step in to control the situation.
The event was briefly paused, but things resumed around 6:10 p.m. with Aperuss performing.
Sadly, many ticket holders, who had bought passes in advance—ranging from Tk 10,000 for the premium “Magical Zone” to Tk 2,500 for the general section—couldn’t enjoy the show.
Actress Shabnam Faria shared her frustration on Facebook, saying, “I don’t know whether to praise the Army for being strict about the security or feel sad about not being able to enter the concert!!!”
Journalists assigned to cover the event also faced difficulties. They were not allowed to bring any audio or visual equipment, including cameras and microphones, which made their job nearly impossible.
The press conference that was supposed to take place the day before the concert was also suddenly canceled.
Despite all these issues, Magical Night 2.0 still delivered a fantastic musical experience for those who made it inside.
Atif Aslam’s performance was everything fans had hoped for, and many left the venue happy with the show. However, for many concertgoers, the poor organization and the stress of trying to get in left a sour taste, and some said the event could have been much better with proper planning.
It was clear that while the music was magical, the experience could have been far more enjoyable with better management.
