Katy Perry to perform before World Cup opener

Katy Perry will perform before the United States’ opening match of the FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium in California on June 12, organisers announced.

The pre-match entertainment ahead of the game against Paraguay will also feature artists including Future, Rema, Lisa, Tyla and Anitta.

FIFA said special opening ceremonies will be held in all three host countries of the expanded 48-team tournament.

In Mexico, the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at Azteca Stadium will feature performances by several Latin music stars, including J Balvin and Maná.

Meanwhile, Canada will host performances by artists such as Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé and Alessia Cara before its first World Cup match in Toronto.

FIFA said all opening ceremonies are expected to begin 90 minutes before kickoff.
