Algeria bounced back strongly after a heavy defeat to Argentina in their opening match, keeping their knockout stage hopes alive with a 2–1 victory over Jordan in a crucial Group J clash at Bay Stadium in San Francisco.

On the other hand, Jordan’s campaign came to an end after suffering a second consecutive defeat, following their earlier loss to Austria, which confirmed their exit from the group stage.

Jordan started the match on the front foot and were rewarded for their attacking intent in the 36th minute. Midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan broke through Algeria’s defence with a well-worked move to give his side a 1–0 lead.

After conceding, Algeria increased their attacking intensity but were unable to find an equaliser before half-time, with Jordan holding on to their narrow advantage.

The second half saw a shift in momentum as Algeria pressed forward in search of a comeback. Their persistence paid off in the 69th minute when Nadir Benbouali capitalised on defensive lapses to level the score at 1–1.

Algeria continued to push after drawing level and eventually found the winner in the 82nd minute. From a corner kick, Jordan failed to clear their lines properly, allowing Amine Gouiri to react quickly and slot home the decisive goal, sealing a vital 2–1 win.

With the three points, Algeria kept their qualification hopes alive. Their final group match against Austria will determine whether they advance to the knockout stage.
