England kicked off their World Cup campaign in impressive fashion, defeating Croatia 4-2 in their Group L opener. The Three Lions secured all three points thanks to a dominant performance, although Croatia managed to draw level twice during the match.

The victory also provided England with a measure of revenge for their defeat to Croatia in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Captain Harry Kane scored twice for England. After seeing his initial penalty attempt fail, Kane made no mistake with the second opportunity and found the net.

The England skipper added his second goal in the 42nd minute, heading home from a corner. However, the win did not come easily. Croatia fought back through a superb strike from Martin Baturina, while Petar Musa scored just before half-time to bring his side level once again.

England emerged from the break with greater attacking intent, reflecting the tactical approach of coach Thomas Tuchel. Their pressure paid off early in the second half when Jude Bellingham raced forward and fired home from a tight angle to restore England’s lead.

Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković produced several outstanding saves to keep his team in contention, but the visitors were ultimately unable to withstand England’s relentless pressure. Marcus Rashford sealed the victory late in the match with England’s fourth goal.

The win moves England to the top of Group L, which also includes Ghana and Panama.
