After that historic thrashing of Southampton last week, Manchester United were full of confidence and they showed that since the very first minute of the game. The match started with a memorial for the Busby Babes and the United players had put on black armband to show their tribute to all those who were lost in the Munich Tragedy.
Solskjær’s team had been putting the pressure on Everton and the reward wasn’t far off. On the 24th minute, Cavani scored a scrumptious header from Rashford’s cross. Portuguese forward Bruno Fernandes, who’s been criticised by rival fans for scoring a number of penalties, showed exactly what he is capable of when he curled the ball into the top left corner with a beautiful strike. Goalkeeper Robin Olsen had no chance against a strike of that quality. Manchester went into the half time with a 2-0 lead.
It seemed like a nigh impossible task for Everton on the break but Abdoulaye Doucouré had other ideas. Early in the second half, he scored from a rebound shot from close range. With their rediscovered spirit, James Rodriguez, the former Real Madrid attacking midfielder scored from inside the box to equalise within three minutes.
McTominay took Manchester forward with another header and they stayed forward till the end of the match. That was until injury time. On the 94th minute, with what was possibly the last kick of the match, it was Calvert Lewin who deprived United from all three points. Both teams had to share one points each from this thrilling contest at the Old Trafford.
Everton boss Ancelotti said it felt like a win even though it was just one point. “I am proud of my team” he added.
