Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has appealed to France‍‍`s Court of Cassation after a lower court upheld a decision sending him to trial on rape charges, a source close to the case said Friday.

The appeal follows a June 19 ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeal, which confirmed that Hakimi should stand trial in criminal court over an alleged rape dating back to 2023.

Hakimi, 27, has repeatedly denied the allegation.

The case relates to a complaint filed by a woman who told police in the Val-de-Marne region, southeast of Paris, that the footballer raped her in February 2023.

According to earlier police sources, the woman said she had first contacted Hakimi through Instagram and later went to his home in a taxi allegedly arranged by the player.

Her lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said the complainant would continue pursuing the case until the end.

Hakimi‍‍`s lawyer declined to comment on the latest appeal.

The Court of Cassation is France‍‍`s highest court for civil and criminal matters. It will review legal aspects of the case rather than retry the facts.

The development comes while Hakimi is captaining Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
