Morocco recovered from two deficits to secure a dramatic 4–2 victory over Haiti, booking their place in the knockout stage as Group C runners-up at the FIFA World Cup.
The result sends last edition’s semifinalists through alongside group winners Brazil, who earlier defeated Scotland 3–0.
At the Atlanta Stadium, Haiti started aggressively and troubled Morocco’s defence from the opening stages. Despite being ranked 83rd in the world, the Caribbean side shocked Morocco by taking the lead in the 10th minute through an own goal. A flicked effort from Lenny Joseph deflected off Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and into the net, marking Haiti’s first World Cup goal in 52 years.
Morocco equalised in the 39th minute when a shot from Brahim Díaz was parried by goalkeeper Johnny Placide, allowing Achraf Hakimi to score from the rebound.
However, Haiti regained the lead just before halftime through a brilliant strike from Wilson Isidor from 25 yards, sending their supporters into celebration.
Morocco levelled again in first-half stoppage time when Ismaïl Saibari finished from a Hakimi assist to make it 2–2 at the break.
In the second half, Morocco turned the game around with a late surge. Hakimi was again involved as Morocco took control in the final stages, with goals from Saibari and Youssef En-Nesyri sealing the comeback in the closing minutes.
The victory confirmed Morocco’s qualification as Group C runners-up, behind Brazil on goal difference.
