Sheikh Morsalin, a striker for the national football team and Bashundhara Kings, is now facing a lawsuit filed by his wife, Sejuti Binte Sohel, over a dowry dispute.
The case was officially presented in court on Wednesday, February 26, in Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, where Sejuti was the complainant.
Sejuti’s statement was taken in the courtroom, and the court issued a summons for Morsalin to appear.
Md. Ishfaqur Rahman Galib, Sejuti’s lawyer, provided these updates, explaining that Morsalin and Sejuti initially got married after falling in love, but their relationship took a turn shortly after the wedding.
The lawsuit claims that Morsalin demanded 2 million taka as dowry to purchase a car and had not been in contact with Sejuti for a long period.
Sejuti, seeking justice, has brought the case to court.
"I married Morsalin because of love. But after marriage, his behavior changed. He started asking me for dowry, and he has not been in touch with me for a long time. I still want to live with him," Sejuti shared.
According to the complaint, the couple married on November 29 of last year, with a dowry of 1 million taka.
However, shortly after the marriage, Morsalin reportedly asked for an additional 2 million taka to buy a car.
The situation escalated on the evening of December 10, when Morsalin visited Sejuti’s father’s house in Savar around 10 PM.
When Sejuti offered him dinner, Morsalin allegedly said, "I haven’t come here for food; I’ve come to collect the 2 million taka dowry."
Sejuti’s parents told him they could not afford the amount, which allegedly led Morsalin to start using abusive language and making threats.
When asked about the case, Sheikh Morsalin responded, “I am not aware of this issue yet. If a case has been filed, I will fight it legally. I have nothing else to say at the moment.”
This incident has raised questions about the private lives of public figures, particularly as legal matters continue to unfold.
