The Netherlands national football team secured top spot in Group F with a commanding 3–1 victory over the Tunisia national football team at Kansas City Stadium on Friday, confirming their place in the World Cup knockout stage. With seven points from three matches, the Dutch finished ahead of their group rivals after Japan and Sweden drew 1–1 in the other fixture. The result sets up a round of 32 meeting with Group C runners-up Morocco national football team.
The Netherlands made a flying start, scoring in just the third minute when Tunisia defender Ellyes Skhiri turned the ball into his own net under pressure. It marked the Netherlands’ fastest World Cup goal since the 1974 final era.
They doubled their lead in the 7th minute, with striker Brian Brobbey finishing from a pass by captain Virgil van Dijk. Brobbey’s goal was his third of the tournament, giving the Dutch a comfortable 2–0 lead at halftime.
Tunisia fought back after the break and reduced the deficit in the 54th minute. A corner from Hannibal Mejbri was headed in by Házem Mastouri, bringing the score to 2–1.
However, the comeback was short-lived. In the 62nd minute, defender Jan Paul van Hecke restored the two-goal cushion by heading in from a corner delivered by Tijjani Reijnders.
The 3–1 win sealed a dominant group-stage performance for the Netherlands, who now advance to face Morocco in the round of 32.
