Two people were killed today as a train hit a locally-made three-wheeler on an unsecured rail crossing in Paba upazila, Rajshahi.
The victims were identified as the driver Mofazzal and lone passenger Habib, said Gopal Karmaker, officer-in-charge of General Railway Police Station of Rajshahi.
He said that both of them died on the spot. They were aged around 30.
According to the OC, the Padma Express headed for Dhaka collided with the cart at approximately 4:00 pm in the Mohonpur district.
"Habib was transporting firewood in the cart," said Dulal, an eye-witness adding that the cart was completely crushed due to the hit.
Until recently, the railroad crossing was unguarded; nevertheless, two Ansar members were deployed there. But the police officer said that they weren`t there when the accident happened.
In this context, he added, an unnatural death case will be filed. The bodies were sent to the morgue at Rajshahi Medical College for autopsy.
