In a briefing held at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning, M. Sakhawat Hossain, the Adviser for the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Labour and Employment, addressed the current market situation.

He acknowledged that there is an ongoing issue with edible oil prices but reassured the public that vegetable prices have not increased.

He further clarified that there is no shortage of essential goods in the market.

"Sufficient quantities of daily essentials have been imported, and there are no supply issues," Sakhawat explained.

He also emphasized that any importer who fails to pick up their goods from the port within the scheduled time will face a fine that is three times the usual amount.

In a separate event last December, Sakhawat Hossain had also personally handed over checks to the families of six workers who tragically lost their lives in the MV Al-Bakhira cargo ship accident in the Meghna River in Haimchar, Chandpur.

This assurance from the adviser is expected to ease concerns among the public regarding any potential shortages in the market.
