Bangladesh embassy in Khartoum, envoy's residence attacked

The Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum and the residence of the the Charge d’Affaires of Bangladesh to Khartoum, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed have come under gun attacks separately as fighting between two warring parties in Sudan rages.

There was no casualty in either of the attacks.

Clashes erupted on April 15 between forces loyal to Burhan and those of his deputy-turned-rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The envoy's residence came under the attack on April 15 while the embassy on April 22, according to the Foreign Ministry and the mission sources.

However, efforts are underway to evacuate Bangladeshi nationals from Sudan through other countries.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a notification advising Bangladeshi nationals not to travel to Sudan due to uncertainties caused by the current situation there.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Monday said some 1,500 Bangladeshis were staying in the African country before the violence broke out on April 15.

The WHO on Tuesday said that at least 459 people had been killed in fighting in Sudan and 4,072 injured.
