The ceremony for newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, to present his credentials to the President of India has been postponed.
Diplomatic sources in Delhi said that Riaz Hamidullah was scheduled to formally present his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 3 PM on Thursday, May 15.
Alongside him, five other envoys were also due to present their credentials at the same event. However, the ceremony has been deferred and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Riaz Hamidullah assumed his role as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India on April 7.
Prior to this appointment, he served as an Additional Foreign Secretary overseeing regional organizations and multilateral economic affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A seasoned diplomat, Hamidullah has previously served as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
He replaces Mostafizur Rahman as Bangladesh’s envoy in New Delhi.
A member of the 15th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs Cadre), Riaz Hamidullah has held various key roles as Director General in the foreign ministry.
He also served in Bangladesh’s missions at the United Nations and in New Delhi in different capacities.
