Though the Dhaka North City Corporation was supposed to launch drive to check skyrocketing price of essentials and food adulteration, the monitoring teams were hardly seen in the capital to conduct operation.
A total of 10 mobile teams courts were scheduled to launch the drive on the first day of holy Ramadan. However, the drive was carried out in one region or two.
The mobile court in sector 7 and 9 of region 1 in Uttara launched the drive around 10am Sunday, but concluded the drive for one hour with taka 200 fine.
“We carried out the drive at Uttara sector 7 and 9 Sunday morning. But, as it is first day, we were not so tough. Taka 200 was fined for keeping belongings on road. And as we operated the drive in Region 1 we missed the Region 7. Tomorrow the drive will be carried out in Region 7,” regional officer Md. Julkernine of DNCC told TheReport.live.
The Region 2 also witnessed a dillydallying drive like Region 1. The regional officer launched the drive around 11am in Pallabi area.
“We launched the drive in the morning. None was fined. But we tried to make everyone aware of price hike and food adulteration,” Regional 2 officer Md. Ziaur Rahman said.
On the other hand, the Region 3 could not launch the drive due to recruitment test. Regional officer Abdullah Al Bakee said, “I am still busy with the recruitment test. I can’t say when the drive will be launched. If we fail today, certainly the drive will be launched tomorrow.”
The mobile court in Region 4 was launched for two hours when a hotel was fined taka 30,000.
Like Region 3, the Region 5 could not carry out the raid due to lack of preparedness. “We were lagging behind preparation. We will launch the drive around 12pm tomorrow (Monday),” Region 5 officer Motakabbir Ahmed said.
DNCC executive officer Md. Salim Reza said, the process has been started though one or two teams were late.
“We appointed magistrates to conduct the mobile court operation. A few will launch drive before the Iftar. We are working on adulterated food and market check. We have kept all regions under Central Monitoring System. The activities of every region are being supervised,” Salim Reza said.
