An outbreak of diarrhoea in the remote Thanchi upazila of Bandarban has caused several deaths, according to media reports.
According to elected local representative, at least four people have died suffering from the water-borne disease.
About 60 people among the ethnic minority have also been affected till Sunday.
With the isolated area disconnected from the mobile phone network, there is confusion over the death toll.
But the district's civil surgeon, Nihar Ranjan Nandi, confirmed that "at least two patients have died.
Four medical teams have been sent to the areas with sufficient medicine and saline, added Nandi.
