Educational institutes may reopen after Eid-ul-Fitr, in light of the ongoing alarming rise of Covid-19 cases in the country.
A highly placed source of the Ministry of Education confirmed this to The Report.
Due to the recent spike in the Covid-19 infection rate, the government is going to take this decision.
While talking with The Report, the source added, “If the infection rate remains the same, we have to reconsider the decision of reopening educational institutions.”
“I think school-college will not reopen before Eid,” the source added.
Earlier the education minister Dr Dipu Moni also hinted that the decision may be reconsidered.
Bangladesh has registered 2,809 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to Monday morning – highest in seven months. The last time more cases were recorded in a single day was on August 20 when 2,868 people tested positive.
Earlier the government announced that schools and colleges will be reopened on March 30.
Educational institutions in the country have been closed since March 17 last year due to the coronavirus outbreak. The government has extended the closure of schools several times before the announcement of February 27.
