Director (Operation and Maintenance) of Fire Service and Civil Defense Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, stated on Wednesday that they have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause of the Bangabazar fire, which damaged almost 5,000 shops.
“As people attempted to retrieve their belongings, they noticed fire in certain areas. The fire is not extinguished completely, but we have it under control,” he told reporters in a briefing in front of Bangabazar Anexco Tower at 12:30pm.
"Twelve firefighting units are still at the site, insufficient water nearby has made it difficult to put out the fire. We hope to fully extinguish the fire by today,” stated Mohammad Tajul Islam.
Firefighters, according to Tajul Islam, have been working tirelessly and cooperatively to remove valuable items from the premises.
He further said eight members of the fire service were injured on Tuesday, among whom two are in critical condition.
