Garment workers blockade roads in Gazipur pressing dues

Workers of a RMG factory have blockaded roads in Gazipur pressing home their demands of dues and arrears ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

The agitating workers took to the street of Laxmipura area at Dhaka-Joydebpur road around 10am Wednesday prompting a sever traffic gridlock in the area.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Gazipur Sadar police station Rafikul Islam confirmed the matter to The Report.

“Workers are not getting their wages properly. Even, they have dues. They also demanded bonus ahead of the Eid festival. With such demands, they sit-in the roads since the morning,” Rafikul said.

Locals said, workers of Style Craft Limited have dues of three months of this year and four months of last year.

They abstained from work since Tuesday (July 13). Later, the authorities assured them of paying the dues within evening. But no payment was given even on the night.
