A Dhaka court today fixed August 3, 2023, for an indictment hearing over framing charges against expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in an arms and narcotics case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion.
Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka passed the order accepting the plea of time extension by Samrat's attorney in his client's presence at the dock as today was fixed for the hearing.
In the applications, the defence lawyers said they were not prepared to take part in the hearings.
The arms case is now pending with the Dhaka's Special Tribunal-2 while the narcotics case is pending with the Special Tribunal-15 of Dhaka.
During today's hearing, Samrat who is now out on bail in the cases was present.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along with his associate and also former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman from a village in Cumilla's Chauddagram Upazila on October 6, 2019.
On October 7, 2019, Deputy Assistant Director of RAB-1 Abdul Khaleq filed a case against him under the Arms Act, 1878 and the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
