On Thursday (September 23), the High Court (HC) will give its order on the bail petition of Jhuman Das.
Jhuman has been in prison for above six months in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
According to media reports, on Tuesday (September 21) after conducting a hearing on the bail plea, the bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar fixed the date.
After repeated rejections for bail from lower courts, Jhuman’s counsel Debangshu Talukder had moved to the High Court.
Earlier this year, 25-year-old Jhuman Das was arrested in Sylhet for passing remarks and criticising Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque on social media.
Following his status, Jhuman was detained by the police in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
According to the case statement, following Mamunul's speech at a gathering in in Sunamganj’s Derai upazila on March 15, Suman bashed the Hefazat leader on social media.
