Maldives VP: It’s enlightening to learn about Bangabandhu’s life

Vice President of the Maldives Faisal Naseem on Monday (November 22) visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“It was enlightening to learn about the life and deeds of Bangladesh’s first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose selfless efforts paved the way for the country to become an independent nation,” he said.

He signed the visitors’ book after placing a floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.He was accompanied by Maldives Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiruzimath Sameer.

Faisal Naseem arrived here on Monday on a three-day official visit to take forward the bilateral relations and discuss potential areas of cooperation.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen received the Maldivian Vice President upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the morning.

Dr Momen is scheduled to host dinner in honour of the Vice President on Monday after a meeting between them in a city hotel.

The Vice President will meet President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday evening at Bangabhaban after his meeting with Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad.

He will have a separate meeting with Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Wednesday before his departure.

Cooperation in the areas of health, education, manpower export is likely to come up for discussion during his visit apart from other bilateral issues.

The Vice President is scheduled to leave at 7:45pm on Wednesday, wrapping up his three-day visit.

Faisal Naseem was sworn into office on November 17, 2018 for a five-year term.

Earlier, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih visited Bangladesh in March and joined Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary celebrations and Bangladesh's Golden Jubilee of independence.
