In summer, severe heat started in Dhaka. This time the heat had exceeded the limit. Mayor Atiqul Islam said about the greening of Dhaka North City Corporation, two lakh trees will be planted. A 'Chief Heat Officer' has also been appointed to deal with Dhaka's heat challenges.
Mayor Atiqul Islam's daughter Bushra Afrin has been appointed to that post. The mayor also told the media that through her appointment for the first time in Asia, a Chief Heat Officer (CHO) is appointed in Dhaka North City.
This information was informed in a press release sent by the City Corporation on Wednesday afternoon. Earlier on this day at 11:00 am in a ceremony at the Senate building Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury of Dhaka University, Mayor Atiqul Islam confirmed the appointment of Chief Heat Officer.
According to the press release, CHO Bushra Afrin will lead the way to secure Dhaka North in the scorching heat. She will implement various programs across the city to reduce the temperature. Dhaka North will undertake additional initiatives including increasing heat awareness, speeding up protection efforts.
After receiving the appointment, Bushra Afrin told reporters, "As a permanent resident of Dhaka, I know that there is no alternative to urgent measures to deal with the severe heat wave.The temperature in Dhaka city is increasing at an alarming rate. Low-income workers, slum dwellers, migrants and women and children are particularly affected by rising temperatures."
