The High Court has intervened and halted the decision to keep primary and secondary schools operational during Ramadan.
This ruling came about following a writ petition filed by a concerned parent and was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat on Sunday, March 10.
Advocate Mahmuda Khanam represented the plaintiff during the court proceedings, while Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Md. Saifuzzaman defended the state.
Previously, the Ministry of Education had issued a notification on February 8, declaring the continuation of class activities in private lower secondary and secondary schools for the first 15 days of Ramadan.
In contrast, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has issued notifications to take necessary measures to continue teaching activities in government primary schools for the first 10 days of Ramadan.
This decision faced scrutiny when a writ was filed by Shafiur Rahman Chowdhury challenging the validity of both directives. The High Court heard the case and suspended these decisions.
