The tenure of the commission tasked with investigating cases of enforced disappearances has been extended once more, with the new deadline set for June 30, 2025.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday confirmed that the extension would run from March 15 to the end of June, providing the commission with an additional three and a half months to complete its work.

The commission, led by retired High Court Division Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, has been investigating disappearances that occurred between January 1, 2009, and August 5, 2024.

Their objective is to uncover the identities of those who went missing and to determine the circumstances under which these incidents occurred.

The five-member commission has been given a 45-day window to submit detailed reports on the cases, including their findings and recommendations, to the relevant authorities.

Originally, the commission was expected to submit its report within three months. However, due to the complex nature of the investigations, the deadline was extended, and the previous term expired on March 14.

The new extension gives them additional time to finalize their work.

The ongoing extension reflects the commission‍‍`s importance in addressing these sensitive cases of enforced disappearances, which have drawn national attention.

Authorities hope that the findings will help shed light on the fates of the missing individuals and provide closure to their families.
