Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu has filed a writ in the High Court challenging the presidential election process and subsequent publication of the gazette. Supreme Court lawyer MA Aziz Khan filed the writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on Tuesday.
The Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) have been made respondents in the writ petition. Later, lawyer MA Aziz Khan told reporters that the writ was filed challenging the process by which the President was elected a few days ago and the gazette was published later. The writ petition will be presented to the High Court bench for hearing on March 9.
Earlier, Supreme Court lawyer MA Aziz Khan sent a legal notice on February 26 claiming that the process of electing Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu as president was not proper. Pursuant to that notice, he filed the writ.
Incidentally, the Election Commission announced retired judge and former Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu as the 22nd President of the country. According to Section 7 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, a notification was issued on February 13 declaring him elected as the President of Bangladesh. Next April 23, the current president.
