China expressed interest in investing into Bangladesh`s maritime sector and modernization of Mongla port.
Yao Wen, Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, came up with this interest in a meeting with State Minister of Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday, said a press release signed by Md. Jahangir Alam Khan, Public Relations Officer of the Shipping Ministry.
They discussed issues related to economic development of mutual interest, the handout added.
The State Minister Khalid said, “China and Bangladesh have already friendly relations and both countries are working to smooth this relationship further.”
“Projects invested by China in Bangladesh are ongoing. Despite the shock of Covid-19, Ukraine-Russia war, development projects are moving forward while difficulties are experienced in other countries,” he added, according to the press release.
After the meeting with the state minister, the Chinese ambassador told the journalists that his country would not interfere with the upcoming elections of Bangladesh.
“The people of the country will decide who will run the country in future,” Yao Wen added.
