In the past 24 hours, a record 17 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country—the highest number of deaths reported in a single day. During the same period, 1,456 patients were admitted to hospitals.
According to a measles situation report released Monday by the Directorate General of Health Services, the deaths occurred between 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and 8:00 a.m. on Monday. With these latest fatalities, the total death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms has risen to 311.
Among the 17 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 2 were confirmed measles cases, while 15 were classified as suspected. The highest number of deaths was recorded in the Dhaka Division, where 11 children died, including 8 in Dhaka district alone.
The report further states that since March 15, the number of deaths from suspected measles cases has reached 259, while confirmed measles deaths stand at 52.
In the last 24 hours, 1,302 new suspected measles cases were reported. Since March 15, the total number of suspected cases has climbed to 41,793. During the same period, 154 new confirmed cases were identified, bringing the total to 5,467.
Additionally, since March 15, a total of 28,842 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized, of whom 25,151 have already been discharged.
