Two media workers were killed on Monday following an Israeli airstrike on the headquarters of Iran`s state broadcaster in Tehran.
The attack abruptly cut off a live broadcast and marked a significant escalation in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, identified the victims as Nima Rajabpour, a news editor, and Masoumeh Azimi, an employee in the secretariat of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
The Israeli strike targeted the IRIB compound shortly after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a direct warning, stating: “The Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappear.”
The assault has been widely condemned within Iran, with officials denouncing it as an attack on freedom of the press and the civilian workforce. However, Israel has long accused IRIB of serving as a tool for Iranian state propaganda and inciting hostility against Israel.
The strike is part of a growing series of military escalations between the two countries that have alarmed the international community and raised fears of a broader regional conflict.
No further details have been released regarding the condition of other staff members or the extent of the damage to the broadcasting facility. Iranian authorities are reportedly assessing the full impact of the attack.
The incident marks a dangerous new phase in the conflict, with media infrastructure now becoming direct targets.
