Coal mine explosion in Colombia, 11 dead

An explosion at a coal mine in the central South American country of Colombia has killed 11 workers. 10 more people are missing.

According to Colombia Reports, the explosion occurred at night on Tuesday (March 14) local time. The coal mine is in the Sutatausa area which is located in about 50 kilometers northeast of the capital Bogota.

The rescuers quickly reached the spot after receiving the news of the explosion. Rescue operation started to save the victims from inside the mine. However, it is feared that several people are still trapped inside the mine.

Three injured persons have been rescued and admitted to the hospital. The hospital authorities said that their condition is stable.

Meanwhile, the local authorities are considering the reason of the explosion as accumulation of gas inside the mine. However, the police have started an investigation to find out the root cause.

Oil and gas are Colombia‍‍`s main source of income. However, such accidents are often reported in various mines of this country. Many workers loses their lives every year.
