Hamas and Israel begin prisoner exchange, 7 hostages handed over

Hamas and Israel have begun a prisoner exchange in Gaza, with seven hostages already handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), according to Israeli media reports cited by Anadolu Agency.

Earlier on Monday morning (local time), the ICRC announced the start of the process to release Israeli hostages in Gaza as part of a ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Hamas handed over seven hostages to the ICRC. Under the terms of the agreement, more than 2,000 Palestinian prisoners may be released in exchange for 20 Israeli hostages.

The ICRC confirmed that it is supervising the release process for detainees from both parties.
