Israel has cleared a multi-billion-dollar plan to buy two squadrons of fighter jets from the United States, aiming to strengthen its military capabilities.
The purchase includes F-35 stealth jets from Lockheed Martin and F-15IA aircraft from Boeing, according to the defence ministry.
Defence Minister Israel Katz said the deal is part of a broader plan to maintain the country’s air strength for the long term.
He said the new aircraft will help ensure the military can respond quickly and operate in different conditions.
Israel already uses F-35 jets, which are among the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world.
The move comes as Israel continues to rely heavily on air power in ongoing conflicts, including operations in Gaza and recent tensions with Iran.
Officials said the country has increased defence spending in its latest budget, reflecting growing security concerns.
Israel’s military has also remained active in southern Lebanon, where clashes with Hezbollah continue.
Authorities say the new deal will support long-term defence plans and strengthen operational readiness.
