The boat sank in international waters about 50 nautical miles southwest of Pylos, a coastal town in southern Greece on June 13. After receiving the news, the coast guard of Greece started a rescue operation. In this incident, 79 bodies were recovered by the Coast Guard of Greece.
The boat was on its way from Libya to Italy, carrying migrants to Europe. Most of the passengers are believed to be in their 20s. Survivors said the boat had between 500 and 700 passengers.
Greece`s caretaker prime minister Ioannis Sarmas said an investigation would be conducted based on factual information and technology to determine what caused the boat carrying the migrants to sink.
