Pakistan has announced the temporary closure of its border with Iran as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate following a series of retaliatory attacks between Iran and Israel.
On Monday, Qadir Bakhsh Pirkaani, a senior official from Pakistan’s Balochistan province, confirmed that all five border crossings between Pakistan and Iran in the region have been shut down. He told AFP that the closures will remain in effect until further notice.
The decision comes amid growing concerns over the security situation along the Iran-Pakistan border, particularly as the recent Iran-Israel conflict has intensified, raising fears of possible spillover effects into neighboring countries.
The Iran-Pakistan border, which stretches over 900 kilometers, is often used for trade and cross-border movement, particularly in Balochistan. The abrupt closure is expected to impact local businesses and daily life in the border regions.
While no official statement from Pakistan’s central government has been issued yet, security sources indicate that the move is a precautionary step to safeguard national security and prevent any destabilizing elements from crossing into Pakistani territory.
Regional observers are closely watching the rapidly evolving situation, as the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel threatens to draw in other regional players and further destabilize the Middle East.
