Fox News host and former U.S. Army officer Pete Hegseth has officially been confirmed as the new U.S. Secretary of Defense.

The decision came after a tight vote in the U.S. Senate on Friday, where Hegseth secured 51 votes, narrowly beating out 50 votes against him.

This confirmation has made headlines due to the slim margin and Hegseth‍‍`s prior military experience.

Hegseth, 44, is a familiar face to many as a conservative commentator on Fox News.

However, before his television career, he served in the U.S. military, completing deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay.

Despite a past unsuccessful run for a Senate seat in Minnesota, his background in defense and veteran affairs made him a strong candidate for this important role.

The nomination for Hegseth came from former President Donald Trump, who has consistently voiced his admiration for Hegseth’s leadership qualities.

In a statement, Trump shared his confidence, saying,

“Hegseth is very strong, handsome, and believes in the America First policy. Under Pete‍‍`s leadership, America‍‍`s military will become even more formidable, and the United States will never fall behind.”

Hegseth, a Bronze Star recipient, is known for his firm stance on veterans‍‍` issues and national security.

His new role is expected to see him focus on bolstering U.S. defense strategies while advancing Trump’s “America First” approach to foreign policy.

As Hegseth takes on this pivotal role, the eyes of the nation will be on his leadership at the Pentagon, with expectations high for how he will navigate the challenges facing the U.S. military both domestically and abroad.
