War never brings democracy: Iranian Nobel peace laureate

Iranian human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has firmly reiterated her opposition to the recent military attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States.

In a brief message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mohammadi emphasized, “What I am certain of is that war never brings democracy, human rights, or freedom.”

Speaking in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner directed her strongest criticism toward Israel and the United States.

She accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of misleading the public by “leading us to hell while promising freedom.”

Mohammadi further stated that she does not believe that U.S. military interventions or bombings could ever bring liberation to the Iranian people.

She underscored her belief that external military force is not a path to democracy or human rights.

Known for her tireless advocacy for women‍‍`s rights, Mohammadi has long been a vocal critic of the Iranian government and has faced repeated imprisonment for her activism.

Despite her opposition to Iran’s leadership, she remains firmly against foreign military actions, warning that such interventions only deepen suffering and destabilization.

Her statement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, following major strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States and Israel.
