The government of Bangladesh has scrapped the controversial Digital Security Act, 2018, shortly called after DSA. The Cyber Security Act 2023 will take its place as the new law.
A senior cabinet source verified the information to the TheReport.Live that the decision was made at the Cabinet meeting on Monday morning, which was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In order to stop the spread of racism, sectarianism, extremism, terrorist propaganda, and hatred towards religious or ethnic minorities via social media, print media, or any other electronic medium, the DSA was adopted on October 8, 2018.
However, the law faced mounting criticism for being abused, especially against journalists, since it was passed.
