The trial has officially started against four people including Nobel Laurate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Dhaka Labor Court Judge Begum Sheikh Marina Sultana framed the complaint and ordered the trial to begin today. Earlier in the morning, Dr. Muhammad Yunus appeared in the court.
When leaving the court Dr. Yunus said that an appeal will be made against this order of the Labor Court. Dr. Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun appeared for Yunus.
The other three defendants in the case of violation of labor law are the managing director (MD) of Grameen Telecom Md. Ashraful Hasan, Director Nurjahan Begum and Md. Shah Jahan.
According to the case documents, on August 16, 2021, the labor inspector of the Directorate of Factories and Institutions, Arifuzzaman, visited the office of Grameen Telecom in Mirpur of the capital and found various violations of labor laws including non-deposit of certain dividends to the Sramik Kalyan Foundation, non-permanent employment of workers, non-encashment of public holidays. Later, on September 9 of the same year, he became a plaintiff in the Third Labor Court of Dhaka. He filed this case against four people including Yunus.
