State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that Ziaur Rahman wanted to change the country`s constitution after killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
"And now Zia`s successors want to fulfill that dream," the state minister said, while addressing a discussion meeting organised by the Dinajpur Press Club on Friday morning, marking the National Mourning Day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He further said that Bangabandhu never compromised with the Pakistanis during those days struggling for freedom. Pakistanis never accepted 6 points, but the Bengali nation is implementing those 6 points given by him.
Ziaur Rahman promulgated the evening law (Sandho ain) in the country at that time. Because of that, common people could not go outside their houses from 12:00 am to 6:00 am.
But they (Zia`s followers) are now talking about democracy and are busy telling lies to foreigners, the junior minister said.
Swarap Baksi Bachchu, president of Dinajpur Press Club, presided over the meeting while Manoranjan Shill Gopal, lawmaker from Dinajpur-1 constituency, Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner Debashish Chowdhury, General Secretary of District Awami League Altafuzzaman Mita, spoke as the special guests.
