9 detained over mob-led hotel takeover attempt

Nine individuals have been detained in connection with an attempted forced takeover of a hotel in Dhaka’s Uttara area.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Sector 6, where a group allegedly tried to seize control of Hotel Milina by creating a mob-like situation.

The detainees have been identified as Sajjad Hossain (28), Shafiq Molla (30), Ariful Islam (30), Tanmoy Hossain Shawon (27), Robiul Islam (25), Anwar Hossain Ashik (27), Saiful Islam Sagar (27), Jalal Khan (30), and Amir (21).

According to law enforcement officials, a group of around 24 people, led by Shafiq Molla, arrived at the hotel on 10 motorcycles with the intention of forcibly occupying the premises.

The attempted takeover was reportedly linked to a long-standing business dispute with the hotel’s owner, Anwar Hossain.

Covert intelligence personnel from RAB-1 were already monitoring the situation and capturing photographs from a distance when the group became aware of their presence. The assailants allegedly tried to confront and obstruct the officers from taking photos.

A RAB patrol team quickly arrived on the scene, supported by a team from the Uttara East Police Station, and brought the situation under control.

The nine suspects were taken into custody and later handed over to Uttara East Police Station, where a case has been filed against them. Further legal actions are underway.
