LGRD Adviser expects Dhaka to be clean by midnight

Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, expressed optimism that Dhaka will be fully cleaned by midnight following the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

During a visit to a secondary transfer station in Kalabagan on Saturday afternoon, he reiterated the city corporations’ commitment to remove sacrificial waste within 12 hours.

“Both city corporations took up the challenge, and we believe Dhaka will be clean by tonight,” he stated.

He noted that improper waste disposal after Qurbani can lead to foul odor and health risks if not managed in time. Despite calls to use designated slaughter spots, many residents did not comply.

However, nearly 10,000 cleaners in Dhaka South and over 20,000 citywide were deployed, with Eid leaves canceled.

Waste removal began between 10 to 11 AM, and administrators confirmed that operations were progressing swiftly.

An estimated 700,000 animals were sacrificed in Dhaka, producing around 50,000 tons of waste. The city corporations distributed 1.39 million plastic and biodegradable bags and kept hotlines active to ensure timely cleanup.
