A massive fire broke out at Gulistan’s Bongobazar area of the capital after 6am in the morning on Tuesday.
Confirming the matter Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Rafiullah Rafi told TheReport.Live that at least 41 firefighting units have been deployed to take the massive fire under control.
“No casualties have been reported so far. The cause of fire is still unknown,” he added.
According to a press release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a joint team of Bangladesh Army has been sent to take the fire under control. A team of Navy is there to douse the fire. Also a team of Air Force is working there with a helicopter.
Over 5000 shops located in the markets of Gulistan including Bongobazar, Adarsha Mahanagari Market, Islamia Market and Homeo Market were burnt to ashes, according to eyewitnesses and shopkeepers.
The fire spread near the Police Headquarters as well, reports our correspondent.
