A 38-year-old man has been detained in possession of around 10kh gold bars worth Tk6.6 crere from Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on information, nabbed Rakibul Islam, of the upazila, with 58 gold bars on Thursday, said Lieutenant Colonel Shah Md Ishtiaq, commanding officer BGB-6.
It comes as the law enforcers conducted a drive in the Nastipur border area and detained Rakibul while riding a motorbike.
Gold smugglers have been using the Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga, along the Bangladesh-India border, as a safe route to smuggle their wares.
