BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has spoken out about the ongoing election controversy, supporting his party’s call for a fair and neutral election.
"BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for a neutral election. This demand is entirely justified, and the people of this country share the same desire," he said, emphasizing that the demand is not just from the party, but also from the people.
Annie made these remarks on Sunday morning at the annual sports competition at Lakshmipur`s Collegiate High School ground, where he addressed a crowd gathered for the event.
He urged the government to listen to the people, saying, "The government must be willing to listen to the people, who are fighting, struggling, and protesting for their rights. If this is ignored, it could lead to another critical time for the nation."
The BNP leader did not stop there; he also warned about the dangers of allowing the country’s political disputes to provide opportunities for what he described as "fugitive fascists."
He explained,
"Those who fled the country in the face of the student and people`s movements are now scheming from both within and outside the country. These controversies could provide an opportunity for the fugitive fascists. Therefore, we must ensure that such controversies do not arise and give them a chance."
Annie then turned his attention to the future of Bangladesh, stressing the importance of creating a peaceful environment for the country`s development.
"The goal is clear for the current generation and for the citizens of the country: to build a beautiful Bangladesh together. This requires the collective effort of everyone," he said, rallying for unity and shared purpose.
The BNP leader called on both government and opposition leaders to find common ground on the issue of elections, stressing that this was a long-standing demand from the people.
"Those in power and those outside the government need to reach an agreement on the election matter, which has been a long-standing demand of the people. There is no room for controversy on this issue," he stated firmly.
In closing, Annie warned against allowing any further disruptions or conflicts surrounding the election.
"Discussions must be held to make decisions. The fugitive fascists have been involved in abductions, murders, torture, and looting. We must not allow them to take advantage of this situation. There should be no further controversies on this matter. Everyone must unite and work together to prevent Annie conspiracy against Bangladesh," he urged.
