Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for local elections to be held before the national parliamentary elections.

This was revealed by the party’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, who led a six-member delegation during a meeting with the Election Commission on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mia Golam Parwar emphasized that holding local elections first, followed by the national elections, would better align with the public‍‍`s expectations.

"For the elections to be truly fair, transparent, and credible, reforms are absolutely essential. No election without reform. No election without reform," he stated firmly.

Jamaat-e-Islami also presented a list of 30 demands to the Election Commission during the meeting.

These demands were outlined in a bid to ensure that any future elections would meet the party’s vision for fairness and transparency.

When asked about the Election Commission’s plan to move forward with preparations for elections in December, Parwar responded,

"The exact date doesn‍‍`t matter. First, we need to complete all necessary reforms, and only then should elections take place."

The meeting with the Election Commission was led by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nasiruddin, alongside other members of the commission.

In addition to Mia Golam Parwar, Jamaat-e-Islami’s delegation included Hamidur Rahman Azad, Matiur Rahman Akon, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, Advocate Kamal Uddin, and Advocate Yusuf Ali.
