A new political party formed by students and the public is all set to launch this Friday.

The party‍‍`s leadership will include Nahid Islam as the convener and Akhtar Hossain as the general secretary.

The newly formed party is expected to have a committee of over 100 members and plans to organize a large gathering on the very day of its launch.

The party‍‍`s creation follows the success of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which played a significant role in the downfall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

This movement led to the formation of the National Citizens‍‍` Committee on September 14, 2024. Soon after, discussions began about forming a new political party.

At first, the party‍‍`s central committee will have between 100 and 150 members, with six senior positions under Nahid Islam‍‍`s leadership.

The committee‍‍`s size may later expand to between 300 and 500 members.

The positions of convener and general secretary are almost confirmed, with Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain in line for these roles.

In addition, Hassnat Abdullah is expected to take on the role of spokesperson, while Sarjis Alam may be appointed as the chief organizer.

The new political party is currently in its final stages of formation.

Three potential names are being considered for the party: Bangladesh Anti-Discrimination Citizens‍‍` Party, Bangladesh Citizens‍‍` Party, and Bangladesh National Power.

The leaders are confident that the party will serve the people and focus on creating positive change.

Samantha Sharmin, spokesperson for the National Citizens‍‍` Committee, stated, “We believe that the structure of the party is more important than the individuals who lead it. There needs to be a clear connection from the first layer to the last.”

The leaders have also emphasized that their new party will adopt a centrist approach.

They insist that it will not be centered around any single person.

Following the party‍‍`s official launch, they will apply for registration with the Election Commission.

Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizens‍‍` Committee, explained, “One of our core principles is centrism. We are neither right-wing nor left-wing. We believe that, at this moment, a centrist approach is the most appropriate for Bangladesh from various perspectives.”

Akhtar Hossain, the general secretary, mentioned, “While fulfilling the criteria set by the law will take some time, we believe that, with the level of support we have across the country, meeting the requirements for registering the political party won’t take too long.”

Political analysts are optimistic that the new party will prioritize the country’s interests and bring a fresh, clean approach to politics.

Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Dhaka University, commented, “The formation of a new political party is currently a hot topic in our political landscape. We hope that this party will emerge with the goal of benefiting the people. We expect such a commitment to be reflected in their aims and objectives.”

The official launch event of the new party is set to begin at 3 PM on Friday.
